This magnificent “sculpture” of bright yellow a 1953 Volkswagen Beetle was expertly created by Ichwan Noor aided by Mondecor Jakarta. This was an actual Beetle that was combined with metals and aluminum to form a near perfect spherical piece of art.

Photographer Alejandro Cartagena stood looking down from a bridge in northern Mexico to take these unique images. He managed to capture snapshots of the daily commutes of Mexican workers as they lay down and sit in pickup trucks. I think these images are really quite special, as it’s not something that most people see. There’s so much information that can be gleaned just from these non-standard views of ‘ordinary’ hard-working people.
iPhone Diorama is a stunningly-creative short video by Mike Ko, a student from California, Los Angeles. When I say short, I mean short, so be sure to watch the video after the screenshots. What’s it about? Well, in a nut-shell, pink and green houses pop up out of an iPhone and cars ride down the road. It sounds simple, but it took Mike three months to complete. It’s intricate, well-executed and visually quite amazing. It has a great soundtrack, too…
I don’t feature cars that much here on Design Soak, but this car is well worth a mention. It’s not just because this Audi is a nice car, but because its lights are actually part of the bodywork. They are made of OLED technology, which means that any cool-looking light configuration is possible, and covers the entire length of the vehicle. These clever car atlas rainbow photos are by artist David T.Waller. He used 2500 toy cars to create this stunning circular rainbow. They are arranged by colour to form a really clever piece of art. I don’t know where all the cars came from, but someone’s had quite a collection going on!
