These top 10 treehouse designs show the imagination of their builders. Ever since I built my own as a child, I’ve been fascinated with them. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who have also designed treehouses for their kids!
This is the amazing work of Paris-based artist, EVOL. His works include a form of ‘urban-sculpting’, whereby urban and natural landscapes or settings are used to create surreal words. In the “Rural City” (above and below), housing blocks have been ‘dug into the ground’. Initially, I though this was photoshop work, where multiple images are spliced together, but this isn’t the case:
The Stockholm County Metro Subway in Sweden is quite an architectural marvel; I think you’ll agree. The subway system has 100 uniquely-designed stations, with 47 underground and 53 above ground level. After occasionally traveling on the boring, non-decorated London Tube, I can attest to how much I admire this stunning architecture. From painted tunnels, rainbows, red walls and mood-lit spaces, this “subway art” is simply astonishing…

This 70-minute video goes through the steps of constructing straight steel stairs. It’s probably invaluable if you’re training fabricators in your shop to fabricate steel stairs or if you want a review for yourself. Chris Maitner, owner of Christopher Metal Fabricating, Grand Rapids, MI, leads the demonstration as he describes how to fabricate a steel pan stairway with concrete fill for a large commercial project.
The video is broken down into six segments: field measuring, reviewing blueprints, revising blueprints for shop fabrication, tools of the trade, layout and fabrication, and stair assembly. You could literally watch the video in segments and fabricate a steel stair as you go… [read more here].
What we are going to be talking about here is the actual marking out of the stair strings. The most important thing to do first is to check the actual measurements on site. Make sure that if an error has happened in the building process that you find it and use the correct overall rise. The most common mistake is to measure what you have, floor to floor and forget to add for the floor finishes. That is you have to add to the measured height for say, ceramic tiles that will later be added to the top… [read more here].
These stunning installations were created by Barcelona-based Penique Productions. To create these amazing images, photographs were taken after giant blow-up balloons were expanded in the interiors of various structures and rooms. Using various and sophisticated lighting techniques, the rooms look totally different after this process was carried out in different locations.
This is pretty unique, and I can’t remember ever seen anything like this before (except for the Rainbow Observation Deck). Apparently it’s Taiwain’s Xiying Rainbow Bridge, and you can see more images over at Mymodernmet.
Here’s a really clever interior design for The Candy Room. It was designed and created by Melbourne-based studio, Red Design Group. Take a good look at this outlandish LEGO Office by Rosan Bosch. This working environment is where LEGO designers can play, discuss and make new creations. Let’s face it, if grown-ups are expected to create toys for kids (well, adults like me, too), the office needs to be cool and inspiring!
