This magnificent “sculpture” of bright yellow a 1953 Volkswagen Beetle was expertly created by Ichwan Noor aided by Mondecor Jakarta. This was an actual Beetle that was combined with metals and aluminum to form a near perfect spherical piece of art.

I think this piece of art is fantastic. I first discovered this piece via Colossal, and then saw it a few time after on various blogs, so I know its been well received in the design community. With all the mono-tone and mindless sculpture art out there, I think it’s great when an artist goes out on a limb and creates something conceptual, hard to achieve and simply mind-boggling!

The idea emerged from a personal perception towards objects that are products of a “transportation culture”, which induces hints/signs of spiritual emotion. To behold a vehicle (car) is to have a “magical” (supernatural) identity. Sculptures represent the interaction between humans and the object realm, with strong spiritual tension that affects the subconscious, and that yields a new “animistic” attitude. Read more here.
