It’s probably invaluable if you’re training fabricators in your shop to fabricate steel stairs or if you want a review for yourself. Chris Maitner, owner of Christopher Metal Fabricating, Grand Rapids, MI, leads the demonstration as he describes how to fabricate a steel pan stairway with concrete fill for a large commercial project.

Setting out and making a simple Stair
What we are going to be talking about here is the actual marking out of the stair strings. The most important thing to do first is to check the actual measurements on site. Make sure that if an error has happened in the building process that you find it and use the correct overall rise. The most common mistake is to measure what you have, floor to floor and forget to add for the floor finishes.
