Building Stairs Tutorial: Straight Steel Stair Construction Straight Steel Stair Construction

This 70-minute video goes through the steps of constructing straight steel stairs. It’s probably invaluable if you’re training fabricators in your shop to fabricate steel stairs or if you want a review for yourself. Chris Maitner, owner of Christopher Metal Fabricating, Grand Rapids, MI, leads the demonstration as he describes how to fabricate a steel pan stairway with concrete fill for a large commercial project.

The video is broken down into six segments: field measuring, reviewing blueprints, revising blueprints for shop fabrication, tools of the trade, layout and fabrication, and stair assembly. You could literally watch the video in segments and fabricate a steel stair as you go… [read more here].

Setting out and making a simple Stair

What we are going to be talking about here is the actual marking out of the stair strings. The most important thing to do first is to check the actual measurements on site. Make sure that if an error has happened in the building process that you find it and use the correct overall rise. The most common mistake is to measure what you have, floor to floor and forget to add for the floor finishes. That is you have to add to the measured height for say, ceramic tiles that will later be added to the top… [read more here].

Want a Secret Hidden Safe in Your Home? Take a Look at These!

Translucent, Trendy and Transparent Chairs

These stunning chairs were expertly made by the designers at Valentinagw.com. The majority of these ‘ghost chairs’ are translucent, and when someone sits on them, there’s an illusion of a semi transparent chair. The example shown below has a bronze colour, and is different from the rest, but they are all made from 4mm polyester sheets and each one is a one-off.

Go Away, Come In

Go Away text

Go Away / Come In household door mat. I think this is great, with some unique typographic treatment that makes the design work. When someone enters a house, the doormat reads ‘Come in’, yet it appears to say ‘Go away’ when the visitor leaves.
